John Jay Students Win Awards At Berklee College's Jazz Festival CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- John Jay High School students Neal LaPolla and Odin Scherer were awarded for their outstanding musicianship at the Berklee High School Jazz Festival hosted by Berklee College of Music in Boston. More than 200 bands featuring nearly 3000 students from 13 states across the country competed at the festival.   Two groups from John Jay High competed: The John Jay Jazz Trio -- including LaPolla and Scherer -- and John Jay Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
