Beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 15, Con Edison will begin replacing and upgrading the “underground gas main” on Scarsdale Avenue between Popham Road and Wright Place. The project is expected to last between three and four weeks.

The project is expected to be completed in two phases. The first phase will last from Wednesday, Aug. 15 through Saturday, Aug. 18.

Phase one - which is being undertaken in the daytime in order to minimize overnight noise impacts to surrounding residential areas," will include roadway saw-cutting and point location excavation between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Officials said that there is not expected to be much traffic impact and there will be police on-site to assist with the flow of traffic. Both lanes will remain open during the three days, though there will be parking restrictions in the area. Local residents can expect "loud saw-cutting noise" during the first phase.

The second phase will take place between Monday, Aug. 20 and Friday, Sept. 14 - through those dates are subject to change.

During the second phase, work will include a “major roadway excavation and gas main replacement” between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily. Officials said the second phase is being performed at night to “minimize otherwise potentially significant traffic and business impact.”

There will be single-lane closures during the project, which will be monitored by Scarsdale police officers, allowing for travel in both directions on an alternate basis. There will be construction lighting at night, roadway excavation noise, traffic management measures and additional parking restrictions on Scarsdale Avenue.

"Motorists are encouraged to observe and obey all traffic and parking-related restrictions in the construction zone, and to exercise caution while traveling along Popham Road, particularly in the area of the intersection with Scarsdale Avenue."
