Stepinac's James Excited To Play In Charity Game

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Archbishop Stepinac High School senior Joshua James is one of 13 students in the New York City region selected to play in the fourth annual Sharette Dixon Classic, which he is thankful for.

“My athletic director texted me and told me – I was kind of surprised,” said James, a point guard and shooting guard. “I’m actually blessed someone sees the good person that I am, and that I can represent myself in a game like that is good.”

The charity game pits the top high school juniors and seniors from New York and New Jersey against one another. The tournament is named after Sharette Dixon, who died in 2009, leaving behind a husband and three young children. Money raised from the tournament will go to a fund for her children, a written statement said.

“It’s a nice surprise now, knowing what it’s about and what it’s for,” James said.

James, who committed to playing basketball at Monmouth University in New Jersey, said he is looking forward to the tournament and playing with some of the guys he is used to facing on the court.

The Oct. 21 game will be played at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn and starts at 7 p.m., with a girls game preceding it at 5 p.m. Both games can be viewed on MSG Varsity .
