Hufnagel allegedly sent sexual innuendo-filled and then threatening text messages to a female journalist who he was trying to solicit for sex, according to reports.
A seven-month investigation by the university began when the unnamed reporter sent head coach Cuonzo Martin an email detailing the unwelcome advances, according to reports.
The reporter said that after she rejected Hufnagel's advances, he denied her access to information about the team and she eventually lost her job, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

In a statement on Twitter, Hufnagel said, "Being ripped away from a team that I love has been, in a word, unbearable.
"I take these allegations incredibly seriously, but the report is wrong."
Hufnagel said he has hired an attorney "to fight Cal's plan to terminate me."
Hufnagel was in his second season as an assistant with the Bears following a season on the coaching staff at Vanderbilt. Prior to that, Hufnagel served as an assistant for four seasons at Harvard.
Hufnagel earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University in 2006 and a Masters of Education with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration at Oklahoma in 2010. Hufnagel, who was cut from the Scarsdale varsity boys basketball team, was a student manager on the Cornell basketball team.
Cal, seeded fourth, is scheduled to play No. 12 South Dakota State Friday afternoon in an NCAA Tournament South regional opening-round game.
