If approved, Smith’s term would begin on Oct.1 and continue through the school year.
He will replace Timothy Connors who stepped in for Superintendent Paul Fried who is on a medical leave.
Smith retired in 2013 as superintendent in Sleepy Hollow after 12 years. Since then he has held interim superintendent and consultant positions.
Smith has also been on the adjunct faculty at Bank Street College, Fordham University and St. Lawrence University. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Marietta College, he has two masters degrees and a Ph.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University.
“We are confident that Dr. Smith is an excellent choice for the students, staff and community. He will bring us the experienced leadership needed to provide stability and to move the district forward,” said Board President Rosemarie Eller
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Education House, 5 Homeside Lane.
