During the event, middle school students from throughout the region competed in teams while Sleepy Hollow teachers, parents, and student volunteers judged and ran the tournament.

Coming in first place were the Robochaps, a team from Chappaqua, and in second place were the EdyHexabots, a team from Edgemont. All three top teams will move onto the next leg of the First Lego League Robotics competition.

Competing students were charged with using Lego components to build small robots that could successfully complete a mission. Teams presented their research, robot design, and overall experience to judges. The ultimate purpose of the program is to get young students excited about science and technology and teach them valuable employment and life skills.

This year, the mission challenge was called "Animal Allies" and students explored the relationship between people and animals. The robots built by the students performed tasks including navigating around obstacles on the competition table and collecting and manipulating objects. Students had an opportunity to apply what they know, think critically, work together, and showcase their creativity.

Other participating groups were the Robotics Raiders from Scarsdale Middle School, the OWCA from Ossining, YES II from Albert Leonard Middle School in New Rochelle, the Giggle Bots from Broadalbin-Perth Middle School, the Light Switches from New City, the Bronco Bots from Bronxville Middle School, and the Techno Girls from the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson.
