WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – While speaking before Westchester’s business leaders and executives recently, County Executive Rob Astorino hailed the area’s access to talent, transit, schools, parks, capital and forward-thinking development.

Astorino’s pledge to continue supporting the county’s business growth was summarized Tuesday in a statement from his office.

“Westchester has great resources,” he said while addressing the Sept. 15 luncheon sponsored by the Building Owners and Managers Association. “But there is more. County government wants to be your partner.”

According to Astorino’s statement, Westchester has one of the best educated workforces in the country with 47 percent of residents having a bachelor’s degree. Additionally, the statement touts the county’s public transportation system, infrastructure and airport as vital for business development.

The county executive urged the business leaders to “reach out to Westchester County’s Local Development Corporation,” which he said has secured more than $800 million in low-interest financing for local, private sector projects, creating thousands of jobs in the process.

Astorino went on to discuss plans under way to develop a $1.2 billion, 3-million-square-foot bio-tech center in Valhalla that will feature advanced medical facilities, a hotel and retail space, according to the statement.

Working with developer Fareri Associates, the project is expected to create more than $9 million in tax revenue, $7 million in annual rent and more than 12,000 jobs, according to Astorino.

Other projects of note, according to Astorino’s remarks, are a $250 million mixed-development project in White Plains, a $197 million development along the Yonkers waterfront, and a downtown development near the mass transit hub in New Rochelle.

“It is clear the market is responding to Westchester’s talent, accessibility and quality of life,” Astorino said in his statement. “All of this smart development... That’s creating a future for Westchester.”
