White Plains Police: 'Suspicious' Package Sent To Journal News Editor

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A suspicious package delivered Thursday afternoon to the Vice President/ News and Executive Editor of the Journal News was determined to be safe, Det. Lt. Eric Fischer of the White Plains Police Department said.

White Plains police and the Westchester County Bomb Squad responded to CynDee Royle’s McBride Avenue home when the package was discovered in her mailbox. The package contained a foreign substance that may be fecal matter, Fischer said.

Since the news organization published an online map with the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties, there have been five reports of suspicious letters or packages being sent to Journal News employees or the company's headquarters in White Plains. The map was published Dec. 23 on The Journal News website following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting Dec. 14 that left 20 first-graders and six adults dead.

Thursday’s incident led police to close McBride Avenue between North Broadway and Hawthorne Avenue for a short time.

Police are also investigating harassing phone calls made to Journal News employees.
