On Tuesday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Samuel Davis, 38, has been sentenced after being found guilty on seven counts of rape, two counts of criminal sexual act and one count of sexual abuse - all violent felonies - on top of other charges for the repeated and long-term abuse of a child he coached between 2012 and 2015.

According to McCarty, the Mount Vernon Police Department became aware of the abuse in April last year, when word of the sexual relationship spread amongst the team, prompting her to alert relatives of the ongoing abuse.

When word spread to the police, they launched a joint investigation with the Westchester County District Attorney’s office and the County Child Advocacy Center. The investigation would reveal that Davis served as a volunteer track coach of his victim’s team at her school in the Bronx.

Davis has been remanded into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
