Paramedics and members of the New Rochelle Police Department were dispatched to Lawton Street, early on Thursday, Sept. 27, when an auto-bicyclist was struck by a driver, New Rochelle Police Capt. Cosmo Costa said in an email. The bicyclist was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to an area hospital for additional treatment.

The bicyclist was struck near the intersection of Lawton Street and Main Street. Police temporarily limited traffic in the area as they investigated the incident.

"I bike a lot," Jim Killoran, the founder of the Fuller Center for Housing in New Rochelle, said, noting that he's been struck riding in downtown New Rochelle. "We have a bike share program, which is great, but we have no bike lanes. It might be in the plan, but we need to make downtown more accessible and safe for bicyclists and pedestrians.
