Longtime Westchester Resident Peggy Pataki, Mother Of George Pataki, 101

Margaret Pataki, the mother of former New York Gov. George Pataki, died Monday at age 101.

Pataki died in her sleep at the family home in Garrison. She spent most of her life living on the Pataki family farm in Peekskill.

"After 101 years my mother Margaret "Peggy" Pataki passed away peacefully in her sleep this morning," Gov. Pataki tweeted. "Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."

She was born on Dec. 7, 1915, in New York City to parents who immigrated from Italy and Ireland. She moved to Peekskill when she was a teenager and married Louis Pataki, Peekskill's assistant postmaster, in 1938.

She was a member of the Women’s Club of Peekskill-Cortlandt, a director of the Irish Hunger Memorial, and a Good-Will Ambassador for the New York State Commission on Aging as well as numerous other committees. She enjoyed greeting friends and family at the Pataki farm and was an avid bridge player.

Pataki is survived by two sons, George and Louis, their wives, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, brother and two sisters.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 8 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, April 9 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill.

A funeral is set for Monday, April 10 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Assumption in Peekskill. Interment will follow at the Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.
