PORT JERVIS, N.Y. - Joseph F. McDonald of Port Jervis, formerly of White Plains, died March 20. He was 77.

McDonald was born March 30, 1936, in the Bronx, to Patrick J. McDonald and Bridget Burke McDonald. He graduated from Blessed Sacrament in New Rochelle. He served as a medic in the United States Army and was recalled for service during the Korean conflict. He was discharged in 1965, after attaining the rank of specialist. He started working as a short order cook. Later, he worked with the Frito Lay Company for many years.

McDonald then began a career with the U.S. Post Office, holding many positions until his retirement in 1992, after 29 years of service. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Mount Vernon Irish, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. McDonald is survived by his sister, Patricia McDonald; sister-in-law, Ruth McDonald; nieces; grand nieces and nephews; longtime friend, Harry Field, of Port Jervis; several aunts; cousins; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Brian; and sister, Eleanor.

Calling hours are Monday, March 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
