Traffic Alert Issued In White Plains As Metro-North Renovation Begins

Motorists traveling in White Plains may see heavy traffic delays for several weeks on Route 119 as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority kicks off an extensive renovation of the local Metro-North station.

White Plains Police Chief Chirs McNerney issued an alert this week to local residents warning that beginning on Wednesday, the MTA will “be undertaking a major renovation of the White Plains Metro-North train station,” which is expected to last as many as two years.

The first phase of the renovation, which began in earnest on Wednesday, April 4, is expected to cause severe traffic congestion on Route 119 for upwards of six weeks.

According to McNerney, the scope of the project includes work on the two bridges that carry the trains over Main Street and Hamilton Avenue in White Plains, resulting in lane closures on both roads. Motorists have been advised to seek alternate routes, when available.
