The Queen City Art Gallery, scheduled to open this month, will feature rotating exhibits of original artwork, providing artists with new space to show their work while enriching the lives of patients, caregivers, associates, students and faculty who use the hospital daily, according to a release.
The inaugural exhibit, "Creative Visions," will feature artwork by five local New Rochelle artists, Patrick Bancel, Alvin Clayton and Jesse Sanchez, with collaborative works by poet Claudine Nash and Carlos Monteagudo.
“Montefiore NR is committed to providing world-class healthcare to the community," said Tony Alfano, clinical vice president and executive director of Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. “We also recognize the healing power of art and are pleased to collaborate with the NRCA. We feel that showcasing New Rochelle’s talented artists is a wonderful way to support our community.”
Jodi Moise, curator of Montefiore’s Fine Art Program and Collection, noted that the Queen City Art Gallery will feature a range of artwork in a variety of mediums that will also reflect New Rochelle’s diverse cultural backgrounds.
“We’re excited to partner with Montefiore on this project,” said Theresa Kump Leghorn, president of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts. “NRCA continually works to bring the arts into the community, and the hospital has certainly been underserved in that respect.”
Leghorn noted that NRCA’s support for the visual arts includes partnering with the city to present quarterly art exhibits in the Rotunda Gallery at City Hall, public art projects like the popular Fleur de Lis parade (a collaboration with the city’s Development Dept. and the Business Improvement District) and NRCA’s annual members’ show at the New Rochelle Public Library each March.
"Creative Visions" will be on on view from Feb. 10 through April 18. An Artists’ Reception celebrating the inauguration of The Queen City Art Gallery is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 16, from noon to 2 p.m.
The Queen City Art Gallery is located in the Administration Corridor on the first floor of Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital; hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All artwork is for sale.
