New Year's Eve Ball Drops Early In 1st Celebration At Kensico Dam

VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Kensico Dam Plaza's Westchester Winter Wonderland is set to host its first ever New Year's Eve Ball Drop and Celebration.

Santa is such a fan of the Westchester Winter Wonderland that he'll be sticking around to celebrate the start of 2017 at the inaugural New Year's Eve Ball Drop and Celebration. Other characters are expected to make appearances throughout the night.

According to a statement from the Westchester Parks Foundation, the Winter Wonderland is to open at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Kensico Dam Plaza, 1 Bronx River Parkway.

The New Year's Eve Ball Drop and Celebration is set to take place at 8 p.m. according to organizers.

According to the Parks Foundation, the event is geared toward families with children of all ages and will include amusement rides, ice skating and circus performances.

The event is also to feature live music with performances by international tenor Pietro Iapozzuto, the Bell Arte Performance Group and pianist Ayesha Goveas

The 8 p.m. ball drop will be led by Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, according to organizers, who said a "five-minute, exciting pyrotechnic show" will take place immediately afterward.

While this year marks the first time Westchester's Winter Wonderland is celebrating with a New Year's Eve ball drop, the Winter Wonderland at Kensico Dam Plaza is now in its third year.
