Ex-White Plains Firefighter, Libertella Dies at 52

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Nicholas Libertella, Jr., a former White Plains firefighter, died Nov. 12 after a long battle with lymphoma. He was 52.

He was born Jul. 27, 1959 to Barbara and Nicholas Libertella. On Oct. 19, 1984, he married Maryellen Simoncini.

Libertella worked as a firefighter for the City of White Plains Fire Department, IAFF Local 274 until he retired in 2009. He enjoyed coaching LaGrange youth baseball, softball and basketball teams and was a die-hard NY Giants, NY Yankees and NY Knicks fan.

Surviving are his wife Maryellen, son Joseph Libertella, daughter Kelsey Libertella, mother Barbara, sister Deborah, brother Jay, grandmother Mary and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Libertella was predeceased by his father Nicholas and his sister Grace. 

The fire department will provide a full department service. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home. A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Anthony of Padua Church in West Harrison, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
