YONKERS, N.Y. -- Tracey Zimmerman, Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at The Westchester Bank , has found a new focus in life by volunteering to help others within her community. Even better, The Westchester Bank has encouraged her volunteer efforts by sending Zimmerman to Leadership Westchester, a nine-month program designed to sharpen leadership skills and provide an understanding of how non-profits work.

The program opened Zimmerman's eyes to many wonderful aspects of the non-profit sector. "Through the program, I met a number of individuals whose life focus has been in this area and as someone who had very limited exposure, it sparked my curiosity," said Zimmerman.

That curiosity led to Zimmerman being selected to join the board of the Westchester Children's Association, an organization that helps improve the lives of Westchester County's children and youth by advocating for effective policies and programs to meet their needs.

"This is a new experience for me and I am excited to be part of such a wonderful organization. WCA has a long, rich history in children’s advocacy and to be asked to join such a group is an honor," said Zimmerman. "I’m looking forward to working with WCA to support them as they continue to grow and evolve."

Though great strides have already been taken, Zimmerman knows there is still a lot left to accomplish in order to improve the lives of her community members. "My immediate focus is to gain a deeper understanding of WCA and identify ways that I can positively influence their mission, understand their current initiatives and at the same time, get to know fellow board members and staff," said Zimmerman. "In addition, I am also serving on a Youth County Funding Group where the initiative is to evaluate and possibly enhance the existing process for disseminating government funding to local not-for-profits."

With her new calling to philanthropy, Zimmerman has to balance work and volunteering, which at times can be tricky. Luckily though, the task is manageable with The Westchester Bank's support. "Many of the Bank’s board and senior management are already very active community members, so it just seems like a natural fit. In many ways, I’m the one who is late to the game," said Zimmerman.
