All-American favorites such as hot dogs, bacon and sausage may cause cancer, according to The World Health Organization.
Scientists have reviewed the evidence and conclude that eating these meats regularly increases the risk of colorectal cancer. They have also categorized processed and red meat in the same category as tobacco and asbestos, reported NPR.
"Red meat has nutritional value. Therefore, these results are important in enabling governments and international regulatory agencies to conduct risk assessments, in order to balance the risks and benefits of eating red meat and processed meat and to provide the best possible dietary recommendations," said the International Agency for Research on Cancer in a statement.
