Building Director Improves Healthcare Facilities Throughout Westchester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Theodora Diamantis has improved the quality of life for many people through her work in healthcare facility construction. As a building project director, Diamantis oversees multimillion dollar construction developments in the New York area and throughout the country.

“I have dedicated a good portion of my career to healthcare and I take pride in those projects because I know the purpose that those facilities are serving,” said Diamantis.

That's why Westchester County Association will honor Diamantis with the “Women In Tech Award,” which celebrates the leadership, creativity and innovation of women in science or technology.

A graduate of The Catholic University of America, Diamantis received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master's degree in architecture. “My strength in math and science led me to choose architecture and engineering as my majors,” said Diamantis. “I’ve been able to lead teams while drawing on my technical knowledge.”

After joining the construction group Skanska USA as a project engineer in 1995, Diamantis rose to her current role as building project director. She is currently overseeing two healthcare projects in Westchester.

“It’s special to work with the medical staff and see the patients who are coming in, and offering them a place that gives them hope,” said Diamantis. “Having the interaction with the actual user groups like the physicians, nurses and doctors definitely adds more value to these projects.”

Under Diamantis, Skanska has delivered multimillion dollar designs, including healthcare facilities and state-of-the-art research laboratories.

Diamantis was part of the leadership team that headed the $600 million renovation of the 400,775 sq. ft. Science Research Center at City University of New York. Her other projects include the Orange Regional Medical Center, Physician Office Building and Cancer Center, and Westchester Medical Center’s Ambulatory Care Pavilion.

“I’m very proud of the CUNY research lab in Harlem because I believe that project changed and transformed that neighborhood,” said Diamantis. “It’s an iconic building, from the finishes to the actual research that they're doing in the facility, it’s a jewel in Harlem.”
