WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Johnny Winter is coming to White Plains and hes bringing a few of his friends with him for the Rock N Blues Fest Sunday at the Westchester County Center.
The influential blues guitarists younger brother Edgar, Rick Derringer, Mountain's Leslie West and others will join him onstage.
These were the guys that were the originals of the clique, said Paul Nelson, guitarist and manager of the Johnny Winter Band. Its fun to hear the stories, its fun to hang out; its fun to play a little. We all started jamming together during Jumping Jack Flash, which we just added to the show.
Johnny Winter is in the middle of a national tour, for which Nelson said he couldnt pinpoint a beginning or end.
We do about 100 to 140 shows a year, been doing that for about five to six years now, Nelson said. I think we get a break in November, but then we go back into the studio for Roots 2.
Winter released his first studio album in eight years, Roots, in September 2011, in which he pays homage to those who inspired him, like Muddy Waters and T-Bone Walker. Nelson said they will begin work on Roots 2 in November when they complete their tour dates for the year. He said the album might be released in the middle of 2013, and there may be more of its kind on the way.
At the age of 70, Winter said he doesnt have any plans to slow down.
As long as Im healthy enough, I have no plans on retiring, Winter told The White Plains Daily Voice while making his way east on the tour.
While Winter continues to tour in 2012, filmmaker Greg Olliver has been shadowing him for a documentary on the blues guitarist, which Vintage Guitar Magazine reported is scheduled for release in 2013.
