The first storm is expected to make its path near the East Coast on Sunday and into Monday. If the storm tracks close to the coast, then rain and or wet snow could hit from the Carolinas to southern New England with snow or a wintry mix farther north, AccuWeather.com reports. Should the storm swing off the coast, then little or no precipitation would occur, a scenario which seems more likely at this point, AccuWeather noted.

The potential for a significant snowstorm will increase farther north from the upper part of the mid-Atlantic to New England from Tuesday into early Wednesday as a second storm is expected to make its way to the region. It could also bring snow for Tuesday's New Hampshire primary.

"As with any pattern change, there is a period of uncertainty and the potential for swings in the forecast," AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams said. "It is too early to make a call, one way or the other, until we gauge how the colder air and the two storms will interact with each other."
