Following the blizzard Friday, all of the city’s Department of Public Works personnel were on duty for snow plowing and removal, Karen Pasquale, of the mayor’s office, said.
“The city DPW had all roads in the city plowed by Saturday curb to curb and our main thoroughfares were plowed and cleared to blacktop,” she said. “White Plains was open for business by Saturday morning.”
Russell Feuer said the roads were mostly clear for his commute to and from White Plains on Monday.
“Overall they did a pretty decent job,” Feuer said. “Some of the side streets were neglected, but they caught up pretty quickly.”
One parent took issue with some of the sidewalks near the corner of Bryant Avenue and North Street that hadn’t been shoveled Monday for students walking to the high school.
“It is unsafe,” Cary Romanos Gueran wrote on The White Plains Daily Voice Facebook page. “High School students who live within a mile of the school have to walk on the street or cross Bryant or North Street only to walk through three to four feet piles of snow to get to a path, or just walk on the street along with the cars.”
Property owners are generally responsible for shoveling the sidewalk in front of their property, Pasquale said.
Monday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 33 degrees and a dense fog before 1 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Tuesday is mostly sunny with a high near 41 and a low around 26 degrees. There is a slight chance of rain Wednesday before 3 p.m., then a chance of snow before the sun comes out. The high is 39 degrees. Snow is likely Wednesday night between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. and the low could dip to around 28 degrees.
Thursday, there is a chance of snow before 8 a.m. The day will be partly sunny with a high near 38 and a low around 29 degrees.
Friday is mostly sunny with a high near 44 and a low around 27 degrees.
