This story has been updated.

A preview of winter will sweep over the area on Veterans Day as a cold front delivers a shot of cold air making it feel like it's in the 20s and 30s, to as low as the upper teens in northern areas, including Putnam and Dutchess counties, according to the National Weather Service and AccuWeather.com.

A Freeze Warning, issued by the National Weather Service, is now in effect for Southern Westchester from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday as temperatures drops to around the freezing mark. There had been a Freeze Watch in effect from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday before the warning  went into effect.

The conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation.

The colder air, moving in from northern Canada, will hit the area Friday afternoon with the coldest air moving through Saturday morning on the back of blustery winds of 13 to 21 mph, Accuweather.com said.

The bitter cold wind chills will affect the area Friday night.

Luckily, sunny skies will accompany the cold weather on Saturday as temperatures are predicted to run 5 to 10 degrees below the average, climbing only into the mid 40s. Winds will gust as high as 40 mph Saturday.

However, the cold blast won't be around for long. Winds will shift on Sunday allowing for milder, more seasonable temperatures to move back in for the end of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
