The radio stations were all saying that 9A was closed. So I took 134 down into Ossining and back up 9 only to find that 9 was closed and I was back on 9A south, with no where to get off except at 134, right back where I started, but 2 hours later. Some accurate information would have helped avoid a lot of this disaster. View Comment
Well it seems they found a way to avoid the problem, as of sometime this afternoon. "Schools will be closed from Monday, March 25 through Friday, March 29. Schools will be open on Monday, April 1.

Sorry informedGuy, in our case I beg to differ. We already did not have a week off in February (the other feasible time for college visits) so made plans to do it during Spring break. There's no other feasible time that colleges would actually be in session. And given that the amount of "teaching" that is going to take place that day is nearly negligible, I'm not going to cut short our visits so that he can attend on that one day. I understand why the school had to do what they did, but it doesn't mean I have to go along with it. And I would hardly expect parents who have a yearly vacation that week to consciously plan to not go on vacation given some "possible" loss of a day or two then. Well we for one won't be sending our son to school. That week is a traditional (and often only feasible) time to do college visits for Juniors, and we'll be in New England doing just that. View Comment

Your comment about Ethanol doesn't really make sense; you have to have a special car to use it, so it's not like people can just "decide" to buy it when they see the high price of regular. View Comment
Or perhaps, housemusic, you were referring to the *STATE* senate district where Ossining moves to join Rockland. That, of course, *WAS* brought to you by our representatives in Albany, rather than an impartial judge.

The last paragraph of this article makes no sense given the new congressional maps. Dr. Becker will be running for the 18th district, not the 19th, and it does not include many of the towns listed. View Comment
Housemusic: Not just Ossining, but also Peekskill, Cortlandt, and Yorktown and several other towns are now combined with Rockland. Did you even look at the picture? It was necessary to change the maps to remove two districts, so obviously things had to change fairly substantially. The new districts are much more "circular" or "square" and don't have these crazy long threads connecting far apart areas like the old maps did. That's because they were drawn by a judge, who didn't have a political stake in protecting her "turf", rather than our oh-so-honorable state senate and assembly representatives. View Comment
I was there last Saturday morning, around 10, and was surprised to see how easy the parking was. It really didn't seem as bad as I'd expected, and certainly not nearly as bad as I've seen it at other times. View Comment

I suspect that many who voted "no" would have, in fact, voted "yes" to "fix the broken toilet", that is, to upgrade the science classrooms, and make the necessary repairs. The issue was that many felt that other things were included in the bond that were not in the same category. I voted yes, but with quite a bit of reluctance, as I feel a responsibility to think of everyone in the district, and whether the benefits of the bond justifies the cost. View Comment
