Two Trapped In I-95 Crash Involving Tow Truck

One person was trapped under a AAA tow truck and a second stuck in a commercial truck in a big crash Friday night on I-95 in Fairfield, Conn., firefighters said.

Fairfield firefighters were called to the scene at about 10:15 p.m. Friday on I95 south between Exits 19 and 18. The crash involved several vehicles, including the truck and the tow truck.

Fire crews from Fairfield and Westport worked to extricate one person from the commercial truck and to free the person trapped under the tow truck.

The condition of the two people, who were taken to the hospital, was unknown Saturday, firefighters said. 

It appears the tow truck had stopped to help another driver on the side of the highway when the crash occurred. 

Connecticut State Police are investigating the accident is under investigation. 

A total of four Fairfield fire units and three Westport fire units responded. The last fire unit cleared the scene at 2 a.m.

"The Fairfield Fire Department wants to remind residents to adhere to the Move Over Law," said Assistant Fire Chief Roger Caisse, the incident commander. 

Any driver on a highway, when approaching a stopped emergency vehicles on the shoulder, lane or breakdown lane, must immediately reduce their speed and move over one lane.
