Connecticut continues to rank among the top 20 best states in the country.
The Constitution State came in at No. 20 – down slightly from No. 16 last year – on the 2024 Best States list by U.S. News & World Report, released Tuesday, May 7.
Rankings were determined using 71 metrics across eight categories, including fiscal stability, infrastructure, education, health care, and the economy. Data was pulled from national surveys taken by nearly 70,000 people.

Popular Frozen Meat Pizza Product Recalled Due To Misbranding, Undeclared Allergens
A popular frozen pizza product sold in the Northeast has been recalled due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.
802 VT Frozen, a Newport, Vermont, establishment, said the recall involves approximately 8,220 pounds of its frozen meat pizza.
The product contains soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Friday, April 26.
The produced was made from April 25, 2023, through April 25, 2024.

Billerica Sex Offender Admits To Having 5,000 Child Porn Files, Mutilated Dolls: Feds
A Billerica registered sex offender has pleaded guilty to possessing more than 5,000 of child sexual abuse material that featured children as young as infants being abused, federal authorities said.
Eric Robert Johnson, 50, a lifetime Level 2 sex offender, admitted to one count of child porn possession Monday, Jan. 29, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. He faces a minimum of 10 years in prison when he's sentenced in May.

Man, 39, Dies In Littleton Crash, But Police Don't Know When It Happened
A 39-year-old New Hampshire man died Sunday morning, Jan. 7, after his car careened off of a road in Littleton.
The Wilton, N.H., man, whose name was not released pending family notification, was found around 8 a.m. off of Great Road, Littleton Police said. Officers do not know when he wrecked.
His 2019 Hyundai Kona left the pavement and crashed on private property near Gilson Road, authorities said. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
Littleton police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact investigators at 978-540-2300.
TGI Fridays Closing These 'Underperforming' Northeast Restaurants
TGI Fridays is closing nearly 30 "underperforming" locations across the northeast and will sell eight restaurants to the chain's former CEO, the chain said in a news release.
The 27 closures include restaurants in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In total, 36 TGI Fridays locations are shutting down nationwide.
The company says about 1,000 employees, which represent more than 80% of those impacted, will be offered transfer opportunities.

Recall Issued For Ground Beef Product Due To Possible Contamination
A recall has been issued for thousands of pounds of ground beef because it may be contaminated with a foreign object.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Sunday, Nov. 19 that Skyline Provisions, Inc. is recalling approximately 5,620 pounds of raw ground beef products that were produced and packed on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023.
The items were shipped to locations in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Injured Mass Woman Rescued From New Hampshire Hiking Trail
A 30-year-old Massachusetts woman was carried out from a popular New Hampshire hiking trail over the weekend after she suffered a "significant lower leg injury," authorities announced.
Leenah Hassan, of Boston, was hiking with friends on the Lonesome Lake trail in Lincoln, New Hampshire, around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. Hassan stopped along the three-mile loop to take a photo of the lake, slipped on a wet rock, and fell "awkwardly" on her leg, NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers said.
