WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - The White Plains United Girls Under-11 age group soccer team capped its 2013 Westchester Youth Soccer League's Division 1 season earlier this month by winning the U.S. Youth Soccer Eastern N.Y. State Championship Upper Cup.
Clara Friend scored four times and Kyra Broderick and Haley Soliz each scored a goal to lead the United to a 6-1 victory over the Hyde Park Lady Jaguars in the state championship game in upstate LaGrange.
The United defense, led by defender Julia Mancini and goalkeeper Jillian Pope, stifled Hyde Park in the first half as the White Plains girls opened 4-0 lead.
Lisa Burg and Camila DeSouza each made several clearances on defense to prevent the Jaguars from scoring and the United defense allowed just one goal in the second half.
The United finished the season with 20 wins, three ties and one loss.
The White Plains United team, led by Coach Jon Feinstein and Manager David Friend, includes: Lisa Burg, Kayla Tillman, Ashley Stagg, Jillian Pope, Kyra Broderick, Julia Mancini, Natalie Anderson, Abigail Martinez, Julia Denion, Hailey Soliz, Clara Friend, Julia Reggio, Camila De Souza.
