ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- Justin Holmans ground ball with the bases loaded and two outs in the last inning scored Matt DiSanto with the winning run Tuesday as White Plains topped Rye to move on in the District 20 playoffs for nine and 10-year-olds.
I wanted to hit the ball hard somewhere and we scored, Holman said. We had the bases loaded and two outs. I had to hit it.
White Plains, which has one loss in the double-elimination tournament, moved on to Thursdays semifinal round against Eastchester or Harrison to be played at ORourke Field in Eastchester at 5:45 p.m.
Rye suffered its second loss and was eliminated. Anthony Burgio and Michael Attonito each drove home a run in the bottom of the fourth when White Plains scored twice to tie the score. DiSanto earned the win after relieving Attonito, who made the start and allowed two early runs.
Both teams played really good, said White Plains winning pitcher Mike DiSanto, who scored the winning run. I just tried to throw strikes. We are happy to win.
