The Westchester United Youth Football league held its seventh annual All-League, All-Star Game on Saturday night, Nov. 15, at White Plains High School.
At the conclusion of the season, the league’s head coaches met to discuss, debate and select the players from each conference whom they deemed the best of the best.
The league is composed of teams from Scarsdale, Ossining, Cortland, Putnam Valley, Shrub Oak and two from White Plains, the Tigers and the Bernies. At the end of the process, Tigers head coach Chris Hatzilouloutis said he had never before seen such speed and talent on one team. The White Plains Tigers had five athletes voted to the South Conference All-Star Team: running back Jayson Crilley, quarterback Brody McGuinn, and linemen Sidney Moshette, Jacob Petfield and Reuban Villa. After being informed of their selection, the South team met at White Plains High School, where they were introduced to their new teammates and proceeded to spend the rest of the week putting all the parts together, by practicing a new offense, defense and special teams. The last night of practice was held in a cold drizzling rain, but it ended with the boys having a pizza party in the field house while getting to know their new teammates better. After five consecutive years of coming out on the short end of the score, the South convincingly won this year’s game 16-6. McGuinn led the team on two sustained scoring drives in which his usual backfield mate, Jayson Crilley, pounded the ball between the tackles and bounced it around the edge on one impressive run after another.
“There was some serious hitting going on out there,”said Crilley.
“Their defensive front line was awesome and the speed of game was just amazing," McGuinn said. "Once the ball was snapped if I didn’t get the ball out quick I was in big trouble.”
