The White Plains Tigers 7th and 8th grade football team rolled over the visiting Hornets of Shrub Oak 40 to 20, on Saturday night, Oct. 4, on the turf in Glenn Loucks Stadium at White Plains High School.
Once again Head Coach Chris Hatzilouloudes kept their opponent off balance by mixing the Tigers signature brand of smash-mouth football, with a highly effective passing game. Scoring touchdowns were Christos Hatzilouloudes, Avery Turten, Jayson Crilley, Nazir Hibbert, and Sidney Moshette. Crilley and Moshette both had more than 100 yards on the ground.
Through the air, Tigers quarterback Brody McGuinn connected with four different receivers, twice picking up first downs on 3rd and long to keep scoring drives alive. As always all this offensive firepower is provided by the men in the trenches doing the hard work.
Up front, the running holes and the pass protection came courtesy of Anthony Moronta, Alex Sagnibene, Johnny Pasqualini, Jordan McKee, Reuban Villa, and Jacob Petfield. As a way of recognizing the linemen for all they do, the football gods had a pass that was tipped at the line of scrimmage fall gently into the waiting arms of big Johnny Pasqualini, giving him his first career reception as he rumbled forward for five yards before being brought down by a swarm of Hornets. Coach Chuck Gray’s new defensive schemes couldn’t have been stingier. Led by Caleb Gillen, Crilly, Turten, and Sagnibene the Hornets were held scoreless until very late in the third quarter. Over the past two weeks the defense has been awesome in both stopping the run and locking down receivers in the secondary. With Sean Larkin, Micheal Huebner, Josiah Gilbert, and Hibbert sharing duties in the secondary big plays and extended drives have become non-existent. This week the boys from White Plains take on the boys from Putnam Valley under the lights at Walter Panas High School at 8 p.m.
