Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. HD is known as the quintessential family disease, because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. The Huntington’s Disease Society of America is the premier nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by HD.

From community services and education to advocacy and research, HDSA is the world’s leader in providing help for today and hope for tomorrow for people with HD and their families. The White Plains Plainsmen have a long standing tradition of being more than a hockey club, they pride themselves in making a positive impact in our community. The Plainsmen Association, along with their hockey teams and families, have agreed to support the HDSA since one of their coaches, Coach Doug Harrison's father, “Papa Doug,” has been diagnosed with the disease.

To show support for the Harrison family and other families dealing with this disease, stickers have been made in honor of him and all players will be wearing the stickers on their helmets. Additionally, these players will be key contributors to purchasing our tickets, soliciting raffle prizes and locking in sponsorships.

Additionally there will be a New York Ranger alum attending the event who will be taking pictures, signing autographs and giving the kids some Rangers giveaways. It’s going to be an amazing day of bowling fun, music, raffles, New York Rangers appearance and more. For more information, visit  https://sites.google.com/site/strikeouthdapril192015/home.
