White Plains Pitcher Named RPI Baseball Assistant Captain

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Stephen Schiavone of White Plains has been selected as the assistant captain of the 2015 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute baseball team.

Schiavone is a right-handed pitcher from White Plains High School, who went 2-2 with a 6.59 earned average in 12 appearances (7 starts) last season.

In 28.2 innings he allowed 44 hits, while striking out 16 and allowing a .326 opponent batting average.

As a freshman, he went 0-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 23.0 innings. The former White Plains standout struck out 12 and gave up a .244 batting average.

The Engineers kick off their 2015 schedule with a doubleheader at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday at noon. 

Rensselaer's home opener in Troy, N.Y., is on April 4, when it hosts Vassar for a Liberty League doubleheader at Robison Field at 1 p.m.
