White Plains' Palombo to play at Rangers' Game

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Seven-year-old Dante Palombo experienced something recently that many kids dream about playing sports. Palombo scored the winning goal, propelling he and teammate, goalie Matt Bridger, into the finals of the Mini 1-on-1 Ice Hockey Shoot-Out Competition hosted by the New York Rangers and former Rangers’ great, Adam Graves, at the MSG Training Center. Palombo and Bridger will be joined by teammates Jake Bongo and Ian Tumm in the finals, to be held Saturday, Oct. 29, between the second and third periods of the Rangers’ game. Six two-player-teams from the tri-state will compete for the title. The four boys play for the Westchester Express (Mite Major) team, based out of Brewster. According to Joe Palombo, father of Dante, the boys will attend and be on the ice for pre-game ceremonies at the Rangers’ home opener, Thursday. “Scoring the winning goal was amazing,” said Palombo, a second-grader at The Mamaroneck Avenue School in White Plains. “I am excited and proud that I made it to the finals.” Palombo, who was just as excited to meet Graves, for the second time, can’t wait until Thursday. “It is an opportunity of a lifetime and I feel great about it because the best part is I get to do this with my friends and my teammates all at the same time,” he said. “Who can ask for more?”
