EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Matt Halas pitched six scoreless innings and Christian Koutsoubis and Justin DiSavino each drove in two runs in the decisive tenth inning to lift White Plains to a thrilling 6-2 victory over the Tuckahoe Youth Association in a Westchester Baseball Association semifinal at Labriola Field.
As I said before, these kids really love to play baseball and it shows in games like this, Generals coach Wally Halas said. TYA played so well, made all the plays, and we did as well. The guys just hung in for the whole 10 innings and got big hits at the right time.
The Generals, who are now 17-0-1 this summer, earned a spot in Thursdays WBA 10-Under championship game against the New Rochelle Braves 10-Under champs to be played in New Rochelle at D'Onofrio Park at 5:45 p.m.
Shane Regan was the early hitting star, driving in the Generals first two runs with triples in his first two at bats in the first and third innings.
Tyler OBrien scored the first Generals run in the first and Halas scored on Regans second triple in the third. Tuckahoe rebounded to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning and tied it again in the third.
With Halas throwing strikes for White Plains over his six innings of relief and Tuckahoes Anthony DeFabbia matching him with four shutout innings of his own, neither team would score for the next six innings until the Generals broke through in the 10th.
In the big 10th inning, Collin Darcy walked, Zack Blot singled and Koutsoubis stroked a hard grounder that TYA could not field, scoring two runs for a 4-2 lead. DiSavino hit another scorcher up the middle two batters later to score two more
The other White Plains Generals are: Brandon Flissler, Caleb Gillen, Matt Gjokaj, Aiden McDonough, Matt Kelly, Kati Wilson, Justin Hanratty, Tyler OBrien and Joey Portanova.
