WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains native and Harvey School graduate Steve Masiello is preparing for another season coaching basketball, but it won't be for the University of South Florida Bulls, who offered, and then rescinded, a multimillion dollar contract after discovering the Manhattan College coach never graduated from the University of Kentucky.
Instead, Masiello will be back at Manhattan coaching the Jaspers and hoping to lead them to a second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, this time with his bachelor's in communication firmly in hand, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The whole problem began after South Florida offered Masiello a five-year $6.06 million offer to coach the Bulls only to discover that the coach hadn't officially graduated from Kentucky in 2000 like his resume indicated. Masiello said he participated in graduation ceremonies at U.K., but wasn't aware that he had not completed his coursework. As a result, South Florida pulled back on their offer, The Wall Street Journal said.
Masiello returned to Lexington to finish his coursework, graduate officially, and is back in the Bronx, saying his relationship with his players is probably better than before, The Wall Street Journal reported.
