White Plains Generals Glide to 9-Under Title

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Down by four runs in the second inning, the resilient White Plains Generals rebounded to defeat Frozen Ropes 10-5 to finish their season with a 15-0-1 record and capture the Westchester Baseball Association 9-Under Division A championship Friday.

The Generals banged out 11 hits in the comeback while holding Frozen Ropes hitless over the final four innings. Shane Regan and Matt Halas each had two hits and Tyler O’Brien, Collin Darcy, Zack Blot, Justin Hanratty, Joey Portanova, Brendon Flissler and Aidan McDonough each had a hit.

Regan drove in three runs and Flissler and Darcy each had two runs batted in. Regan, Halas, Portanova and McDonough combined for nine strikeouts and stifled Frozen Ropes after allowing the five early runs.

“We were so successful at 9-under that next week we will play up at the 10-under level for the playoffs,” Generals Manager Sander Gjokaj said.

The Generals will meet Scarsdale 10-under team that was 9-4 this season at the Quaker Ridge Field in Scarsdale Monday, August 8, at 5:45 p.m.

“Scarsdale should be a big challenge for our younger team,” Gjokaj said.

The Generals are: Zack Blot, Collin Darcy, Justin Di Savino, Brandon Flissler, Caleb Gillen, Matt Gjokaj, Matt Halas, Justin Hanratty, Matt Kelly, Christian Koutsoubis, Aiden McDonough, Tyler O’Brien, Joey Portanova, Shane Regan and Khari Wilson.
