The Generals Under-11 age group team earned the Pool B title by defeating the Stratford (Conn.) Titans 5-3, Long Island Ducks 9-2 and the Atlantic Tides 11-1 playing with 14 teams from all over the East Coast in upstate Yaphank.
Facing the undefeated Long Island Vengeance in the semi-finals, the Generals rode the excellent pitching performance of Colin D’Arcy and his complete game victory. The Generals broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning for the 9-2 victory.
In the championship game against Baymen, the Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead before eventually falling 6 to 3. “This was our first experience on a 51/75 (feet) diamond with leading, stealing, designated hitter and full American League rules and the boys did very well," Manager Wally Halas said. "Finishing second among 14 great teams is something to be proud of." D’Arcy earned two pitching victories, while Christian Koutsoubis and Zack Blot earned one each. Blot and Koutsoubis had seven hits each during the tournament, and D’Arcy, Matt Halas and Jon Siwek each had six. The Generals presently are tied for first in the summer WBA standings, and will travel to Flemington N.J. in two weeks to compete in the 20-team Mid-Summer classic at Diamond Nation. Rounding out the Generals roster are: Brandon Flissler, Caleb Gillen, Matt Gjokaj, Justin Hanratty, Tyler O’Brien, Shane Regan and Edward Watson.
