The Tigers struggled through a 5-15 season last winter, losing in the second round of playoffs to Saunders.

Mayfield told Daily Voice: "We have a good group, a small group, very coachable, they work hard, and they're good students."

Mayfield said the team will look to players like seniors Luis Cartadena, CJ Layne, Matt Scott and Lamar Noel to lift the level of play.

"We'll take it one day at a time," Mayfield said. "But with everyone we have, with the emergence of some of our players, we hope to take a step forward."

White Plains opens its season Dec. 8, taking on Suffern.
