WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Volunteer coaches are needed for the White Plains Recreation and Parks Department's fall soccer and basketball programs, due to get underway soon.
No experience is necessary, and the rec department will provide training and equipment, the city said in a news release. Coaching requires about four hours a week over eight weeks for either sport, and practices are scheduled based on coaches' availability.
The fall soccer programs begin Sept. 22, and young athletes can choose from Pre-Kicks, Little Kicks, Sunday Soccer and League Play. All players will get playing time, regardless of skill level, and all will receive awards, the release said. All players will also participate in the inaugural White Plains World Cup Tournament during the fall 2012 soccer season.
Registration for soccer programs is now open for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade. Register no later than Sept. 8 at the Recreation and Parks Department, 85 Gedney Way.
Basketball registration begins at the end of August. Practices start the first week of December, and the season begins Jan. 5 and runs through March.
