Stepinac's Junior Varsity Baseball Perfect at 17-0

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - The Archbishop Stepinac junior varsity baseball team completed its regular season with a perfect 17-0 record and a Bronx-Westchester Baseball League title.

With seven returning players, a strong group of freshmen additions and a 25-man roster, the Crusaders were winners from the start of the season.

The Crusaders scored 10 or more runs nine times, outscoring their opponents 202 to 88 overall and averaging over eight runs a game.

Sophomore center fielder Tyler Gambardella, who finished the regular season hitting over .500.led the team in hitting.

Freshman Richie Wells won the starting second base position and complied .415 batting average and sophomore catcher C.J. Farias had an excellent year both at the plate and behind it, hitting .425.

The Crusaders pitching staff was led by sophomore ace Dan Meaney and reliever Anthony Giardino, who closed games shutting down opponents through the sixth and seventh innings.

In the final game of the regular season, Meaney, Francisco Jaile, and Anthony Giardino wrapped up the undefeated season with a combined no-hitter against Cardinal Spellman.

The Crusaders open postseason play in the seeding tournament Tuesday.as the No. 1 overall seed.
