Scarsdale Halts White Plains Football In Overtime

SCARSDALE, N.Y. — After a wild, offensive shootout in the second half of Saturday's White Plains-Scarsdale Class AA Section 1 football game, it all came down to one play in overtime.

With Scarsdale clinging to a 34-27 lead, halfback Ari Shamery plowed in from the 1-yard line to bring White Plains within a point. The Tigers called time out and chose to go for the two-point conversion, but Scarsdale defensive lineman Connor Adams read the play at the snap and stepped up to shut down Shamery and preserve Scarsdale's 34-33 win.

“Everybody wanted to go for the win,” White Plains coach Skip Stevens said. “That, plus we had not had good snaps on our previous two extra points.”

Shamery evened the score at 27-27 on a 33-yard touchdown run off left tackle with 2:27 to play in regulation, but Scarsdale's Kyle Picunko blocked the PAT kick to send the game into overtime.

Brandon Williams had a 59-yard touchdown run and 95-yard kick-off return for a score in the second half. Chris Jordan had a 12-yard touchdown run and Shamery finished with 75 yards in the second half on nine carries.

White Plains (0-3) will look for its first win at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at home against John Jay, while Scarsdale (1-2) travels to Yonkers to face Lincoln High, also at 1:30 p.m.
