No other pitcher at any public, private, or Catholic high school in New York State history has ever reached the 40-win mark.

The previous record was 39 career pitching wins, accumulated from 2000 to 2005, by Josh Horn of Ichabod Crane High School in Valatie, New York, which is twenty miles south of Albany.

Stefanoni, a resident of Darien, Conn., earned his 43rd career win in the final of the Fairchester Athletic Association Championship on May 19, pitching a complete game with 12 strikeouts to defeat the defending champion Brunswick School by a score of 4-2. During his sophomore year, Stefanoni broke his own high school’s record of 20 pitching wins by finishing the season with his 24th career win in the final of the New York State Independent School Championship, the only time in the last seven years when the championship was not won by Poly Prep of Brooklyn.

Stefanoni, a two-year captain and team MVP, finished his senior baseball season with an undefeated pitching record of 11-0, an ERA of 1.02, and 92 strikeouts with 12 walks in 61 innings pitched. He batted .333 and led his team with 17 RBIs.

Stefanoni ended his high school pitching career with a record of 43 wins and 12 losses. In June, Stefanoni was awarded the Red Klein Scholarship by the legendary sportscaster Bob Wolff at the 66th Annual Con Edison Scholastic Sports Award Dinner in Harrison, N.Y. In July, the New York State Sportswriter’s Association named Stefanoni All-State for the third consecutive year.

Growing up, Stefanoni played competitive travel baseball across the country with the Connecticut Wolfpack based in Bridgeport and the New York Grays based in the South Bronx. This summer, Stefanoni is pitching for the Long Island Titans in a collegiate summer baseball league and has an undefeated pitching record of 9-0.

Stefanoni was a National Merit Finalist and a Presidential Scholar nominee, and next year will pitch in NCAA Division 1 Baseball at Harvard.
