Pace Softball Continues Action In West Coast

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The Pace University softball team fell short 5-4 in nine innings and 4-1 in non-conference action to Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif.

The Setters scored in the third inning of Game 1 as freshman Shelby Yung led off with a double and came around to score on a triple by junior Hana Wright.  Freshman Nikole Larm doubled later in the inning to drive in Wright for a 2-0 Pace lead.

Junior Caitlin McCann tossed 8 2/3 innings, allowed five runs (four earned) on 12 hits to fall to 1-2 on the season. On offense, Yung went 4-for-5, while Larm went 3-for-5.

In the nightcap, Holy Names took the early lead with two runs in the first and two more in the fifth. Pace got its lone run of the game as Larm doubled with one out. Freshman Haley Hernandez followed with a double to score Larm.

Freshman Kaitlynn Nelson tossed a complete game, allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out eight.

The Setters will continue to play on the West Coast  as they travel to Sonoma State University on Wednesday, March 19 for a twin bill at 4 p.m.
