Pace Men Beat St. Anselm For 2nd Straight Lacrosse Win

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The Pace University men's lacrosse team earned its second consecutive win against St. Anselm in New Hamsphire on Saturday, April 19.

The Setters won 15-13 in Northeast-10 Conference action. 

The Setters jumped on the board first as senior William Scioscia scored 12 seconds into the game. St. Anselm tied the score, but Pace answered with four straight goals, including a pair by junior Adam Mirkin. Senior Matt Gebhardt and Scioscia added a goal, and Mirkin capped the run with a man-up score as Pace took a 5-2 lead.

The teams traded goals early in the second quarter, but the Setters surged ahead with six unanswered goals to close out the first half.

St. Anselm opened the third quarter with five unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 12-8. The Setters broke the run as Mirkin and freshman Brandon Donnellan kept the Hawks at bay to keep Pace ahead 14-9 after three quarters.

The Hawks scored four unanswered goals and sliced the deficit to 14-13 with 4:50 remaining. Senior Ryan Valdez provided the Setters with a late goal, and Pace was able to hold off the Hawks in the final minutes to win its second straight game.

For the Setters, Mirkin totaled four goals and one assist, while Scioscia tallied four goals. Gebhardt posted two goals and two assists, while Valdez finished with two goals. In the net, senior Timothy Izzo played 60 minutes and recorded 18 saves.

The Setters will wrap up their 2014 season on the road against Franklin Pierce on Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m.
