THE BRONX, N.Y. Skylar Mercado drove in the go-ahead run and earned the victory on the mound in relief Tuesday as visiting Archbishop Stepinac topped Cardinal Spellman, 3-2.
Mercados sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning gave the Crusaders a 3-2 lead. He then pitched the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.
The Crusaders, who rebounded from a loss to White Plains on Saturday, improved their Catholic High Schools league record to 3-1.
James Decker drove in two runs and starting pitcher Christian Huertas allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings to set up the win.
Stepinac will take on rival Fordham Prep at home Wednesday at 4 p.m.
