EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - A pair of Eastchester football legends were recently honored by the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame for their commitment to the game.

At the annual “Golden Dozen” National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame dinner at the Westchester County in Rye, the organization celebrated the careers of William Bill Cade Jr. and Matthew Roche, who have made names for themselves on and off the field.

Cade, who has been known to athletes in the area for more than four decades, was honored with the Contribution to Amateur Football Award, celebrating his 43 years of service to the Eastchester Blue Devils and Pop Warner Football, Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita said. With more than 300 wins under his belt, “he has coached thousands of youngsters over his long tenure, (and) his dedication to the youth of Eastchester made him a perfect choice for this award.

Lewis Leone, president of the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame, presented the award.

"Bill Cade represents everything that is good about youth athletics. For 43 years, he has nurtured a team experience that has led to a life-long love of the game for the thousands of youngsters whom he has led onto the field," he said.

Matthew Roche, who completed his final year as a senior at the high school, earned an honorable mention after “playing football for many years (and) earning a reputation as a great competitor.”

“Mr. Cade’s contributions to the Eastchester Blue Devils, Eastchester Little League, Eastchester Instructional Basketball League and Chairmanship of the Eastchester Recreation Advisory Board more than justify this prestigious recognition,” Colavita added. “Congratulations to Matt Roche for his competitive spirit. Go Blue Devils! Go Eagles!”
