WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Former Archbishop Stepinac High School varsity basketball coach and White Plains native Andrew Smith has been promoted from director of compliance to assistant athletic director for compliance at Fordham University.

Smith has served with the Fordham Athletic Compliance Office since March of 2011 when he was hired to serve as the Director of Compliance. In his position, he is responsible for Fordham's NCAA compliance program and serves as the primary contact for all compliance-related matters in the athletic department.

In addition to monitoring initial and continuing eligibility of all student-athletes, he is responsible for the monitoring of financial aid, recruiting, and playing and practice seasons legislation.

He is also responsible for providing all coaches, student-athletes and staff with rules interpretations. He has implemented an active campus-wide rules education program for all coaches, student-athletes, and university administrators. Smith served as a Compliance Intern in the athletic department from February 2009 to March 2010.

Prior to Fordham, Smith was co-editor of SportsNetNY's The KnicksBlog.com, a site which received more than 900,000 hits a month and where he appeared on a weekly podcast.

He also worked at Stepinac, his alma mater, as an AP Government teacher, guidance counselor and varsity basketball coach. Additionally, Smith was a practicing attorney in Westchester County and has worked as a sportswriter for The Journal News.   A native of White Plains, Smith earned his master's degree in Business Administration from Fordham University in 2014 and his juris doctorate degree from St. John's University in 2008.

He earned his undergraduate degree in History and Communications from Boston College in 2004. At Boston College, Smith was a sportswriter for the school's weekly newspaper, "The Heights," and led community service trips to Buchanan County, West Virginia and Cape Charles, Va.
