Football Rivals White Plains, New Rochelle Meet Friday

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The White Plains High School football team gave Harrison all it had on Sunday but still fell short against the experienced Huskies.

The Tigers (0-1) will have a chance to turn it around against New Rochelle (1-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. in one of the oldest football rivalries in New York.

White Plains challenged Harrison Sunday in the first meeting in history between the two schools and took a 14-10 lead into halftime . But the Huskies proved to be too strong and experienced and scored 20 straight points en route to a 30-20 win.

White Plains stayed in the game in the first half but Harrison switched to the running game in the second half and overwhelmed the Tigers. White Plains will need to make the appropriate defensive adjustments against New Rochelle if the Huguenots begin to dominate either on the ground or through the air.

New Rochelle flexed its muscles in a 31-7 rout of Clarkstown South last week. Star senior quarterback Khalil Edney completed 14-of-20 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 108 yards and a touchdown, including an 83-yard burst for a score in the fourth quarter.

But the Huguenots will face a much tougher challenge in week two against White Plains, which used its pass rush to disrupt Harrison’s passing game. Edney will more than likely have to use his speed to avoid sacks throughout the night.
