College Pitcher From White Plains Catches 'All-Liberty' Honors

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Liberty League has announced its year-end award winners for baseball and Stephen Schiavone of White Plains is among six Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes to be recognized.

A senior right-hander who was selected as an Honorable Mention, Schiavone went 5-4 with a 3.47 earned run average in 14 appearances, 7 starts, this season. He allowed 63 hits in 57.0 innings, striking out 43, while walking 13. Opponents hit .275 off of him. 

In 55 lifetime appearances at RPI, Schiavone went 8-9 with a 4.38 ERA in 141.2 innings. He gave up 164 hits, with 91 strikeouts and 53 walks. The Engineers went 16-27 this season, including a 13-11 mark in the Liberty League. 

Qualifying for the conference tournament as the fourth seed, RPI made the championship round, before falling to top seed Union College.
