WHITE PLAINS, N. Y. -- Art Monk, 1976 White Plains High School graduate and Pro Football Hall of Famer, will present an engraved golden football at his alma mater in a special ceremony Friday.
The event, part of the National Football League's High School Honor Roll program to honor the high schools of players who played on Super Bowl teams, takes place at 11:30 a.m., in the media center of the high school, 550 North St.
The ceremony will be attended by students involved in the school’s football program as well as invited guests.
This is part of the celebration of the 50th year of the Super Bowl. Monk helped the Washington Redskins win three Super Bowls. High schools throughout the country will be recognized this year and each will be eligible to apply for grants from the NFL Foundation to help support their football programs.
Born and raised in White Plains, Monk played track in addition to football. He went on to Syracuse University, where he earned All-American honors, and then spent 15 years in his professional football career.
In addition to the Redskins, he played for the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles.
